Senior Accountant

Toronto, Ontario   |   Full Time

To work with FD and a junior management accountant in the development, management, and enhancement of NA Control / Accounting, with oversight to:  month-end accounting/operational processes, balance sheet accounting and reconciliation; Bank account and trading reconciliation, support of purchase ledger accounting, expense management, general ledger, state and federal regulatory reporting / Exam support, etc.

The role will seek to improve the service delivered by the NA Finance department, both internally (e.g. ensuring accurate mgmt. accounting reporting, and Region / Group business management understanding of cost and revenue streams) and externally (e.g. prompt resolution of regulatory reporting deliverables / queries, referral partner payment queries,  point of contact for Auditors / external accountants).


ROLE REQUIREMENTS:


Management Accounts Reporting

  • Ownership of month-end management accounting processes, financial statement creation and reporting in conjunction with Group CFO organization
  • Lead Regulatory reporting and act as lead point of contact for Exam processes
  • Maintain Permissible investment calculations in conjunction with NA Compliance and Group Treasury
  • Point of contact for NA FP&A, regional, and Group business heads regarding P&L queries
  • Provide month-end variance analysis
  • Produce reconciliation of accounting ledger to bank accounts
  • Assist with other balance sheet postings & reconciliations including intercompany balances, and various parent and sister entity control accounts
  • Support Group Treasury with NA banking relationships, strategy, and operation
  • Identify, lead, and assist in process improvements / automation

Trading Platform Reconciliation Process

  • Production of MI reporting around cash movements to aid in the reconciliation process
  • Ensure the reconciliation process is run and variances investigated / resolved
  • Ensure banking entries in the trading platform reconcile with account totals
  • Act as the key point of contact between back office and Finance (including offering accounting advice on the processing of non-standard cash flows)

Team Management

  • Responsibility for setting direction, monitoring work and quality of output for self and team; heavy influence to other aspects of NA Finance team.

Other Duties

  • Assistance where required with preparation of annual budget and forecasts
  • Provision of ad-hoc analysis to Divisional Heads, Executive Team and Board
  • Assistance in group-wide project work
  • Ad hoc duties as required

Skills, Qualifications and Experience relevant to the Role:


Knowledge and Experience: 

  • Knowledge of accounting principles and practices, analysis, and reporting of financial data
  • In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
  • 3-5 years’ experience in an accounting field desired

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Accounting or Finance
  • Master’s degree and/or CPA a plus

Location and Hours of Work:

 Alternative locations: United States - Orlando, Florida; Providence, Rhode Island.

40 hours per week; Monday to Friday between 8.30am to 5.00pm

Flexibility will be required in line with business needs.
